Pharmacist Gustaf Felix Grönfeldt founds Pharmacia in Stockholm, Sweden on the basis of a single, patented "cure-all" (Phospho-Energon pills, a lethicin compound derived from dried calf brains). Pharmacia established its first research laboratory in 1930.
