We recognise the benefits to the individual and to the Company
of involvement by Executive Directors as non-executive
directors in companies outside the Group. Subject to certain
conditions, and with the approval of the Board, each Executive
Director is permitted to accept only one appointment as a non-executive director in another company. For a brief time
in 2005, John Sunderland held two such appointments just
prior to his retirement as an Executive Director. The Executive
Director is permitted to retain any fees paid for such service.
