Online corporate reporting: a coming of age
Investis presentation to Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants
Investis, Europe’s leading authority on online corporate communications, this week delivered a presentation on the latest developments in online reporting to the Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants. The event, held in Dublin on Monday 22 January, formed part of the LSCA Continuing Professional Development programme.
Charles Hamlyn, Partnership Director at Investis, spoke about how the Internet is currently being used for corporate reporting and what is driving change. He also gave an overview of the range of options that are now available.
The accompanying PowerPoint presentation provides a valuable guide to the latest developments in online reporting and contains a wealth of useful information for any organisation that needs to know how to make the right choice in terms of format and cost.
You can obtain a copy of the presentation by filling in an online request form or contacting Caroline Surujpaul by phone on 020 7038 9058 or email caroline@invesits.com.
Notes for editors
Key points of the presentation include:
· Publishing results online is fast becoming the norm and over 60% of FTSE 100 and 90% of DAX30 companies already publish interactive versions of their annual report.
· Online reports attract large numbers of corporate website visitors, accounting for around 22% of IR section usage.*
· Publishing annual reports online helps companies comply with the new EU Transparency Directive.
· From January 2007 UK companies are able to provide their reports online rather than in hard copy, unless shareholders opt to receive printed versions. This will result in enormous savings in time and money.
· Online reports are now available in a variety of formats and prices, ranging from PDFs to interactive image-based versions and full HTML mini-sites.
· Image-based reports allow users to jump straight to individual sections and pages, search for key words and even generate their own customised report.
· HTML reports allow for greater design creativity, as well as the inclusion of multimedia and interactive elements to create maximum impact. They can be made fully accessible in line with European and UK disability legislation.
