Brief
Arriva, one of the largest transport services groups in Europe, commissioned Investis to redesign and build its corporate website, to provide an engaging online experience of Arriva, and communicate effectively:
  • Arriva’s focus on becoming the leading transport services group in Europe
  • the quality of the management team and employees
  • that Arriva’s expertise makes it an exemplary business partner
Solution
The theme of ‘Moving You Across Europe’ underpins the design concept. Randomly selected images used on the homepage focus attention on different modes of transport in a number of different European countries. A Flash map allows users to access summary operational information and key facts about all Arriva’s operations in a very simple but entertaining way. The diversity of Arriva’s operations and the communities that it serves are clearly illustrated by this approach.

The addition of the ‘Expert Bank’ which provides biographies of the senior management team, and allows users to email a question to any one of these experts, reinforces the fact that the foundations of the business are the skills and expertise of its people.

Information from the corporate website will be translated into eight different languages and presented via micro-sites, to ensure easy access to Arriva groupwide information in all of the territories in which the group operates.

The site was built to the WAI ‘AA’ accessible standard and will be reviewed by the Shaw Trust to ensure that compliance has been achieved from a practical as well as theoretical point of view.

Results
Arriva’s new corporate website meets the requirements set out in the brief perfectly, demonstrating Arriva’s position as a leading European transport operator and the quality of its management team and employees.

The interactive features of the website, including the ‘Expert Bank’ and the ‘Arriva Across Europe’ Flash map help to engage the user, encouraging involvement and resulting in an enriched experience of the site.

Bradford & Bingley

Brief
As an existing IR website and HTML report client, Bradford & Bingley has had a long-standing relationship with Investis. In 2004, Bradford & Bingley relaunched its consumer-facing website and this prompted a review of its corporate website. Acting in a consultative capacity, we made suggestions for improving the corporate website’s content, design, usability, accessibility and ongoing management. As a result of this, Bradford & Bingley asked us to redesign, host and manage the entire corporate website.

Bradford & Bingley’s objectives for the site included improving the content and making the navigation more intuitive, having specific areas of the site to address the needs of different stakeholder groups, meeting accessibility requirements and managing updates to the site in a timely manner. In addition, the corporate website’s branding needed to integrate with that of the consumer website.

Solution
A dedicated Project Manager worked closely with Bradford & Bingley throughout the site’s design and build. Once the site map was agreed, two design options were developed and presented that integrated the corporate website with the consumer website whilst retaining a separate identity and navigation. Site functionality for the press release and share price pages was also agreed before the build started. This resulted in the build going very smoothly and the corporate website was launched in time for Bradford & Bingley’s annual results.

Results
The corporate website meets all of Bradford & Bingley’s objectives. It is now structured into sections for investors, the media and prospective employees as well as sections about the company and its CSR activities. Portal pages introduce and highlight important information in each section. A key feature on the site is the press releases page, which categorises releases into group news, consumer news, lending news and CSR news. The corporate website also matches the priority two accessibility standards used on the consumer website. We are now working with Bradford & Bingley on the ongoing management and development of the site.

Benetton

Brief
Benetton, an international leading player in the apparel business, chose us to build their new media website because of our expertise, scale and advanced content management system. Benetton asked us to present a new design and structure for their online Press Area to make it a primary source for in-depth information about the world of Benetton Group.

Solution
We worked closely with Benetton throughout the design and planning process to ensure the site met their requirements. On arrival at the homepage, visitors can see instantly the latest news and the next company event and there are links to the most visited areas as well as press contacts. An image gallery of more than 1,000 photos has been reorganised to facilitate access and download in various formats and resolutions. Interactive tools such as the Events Calendar, Print Basket, and SMS and email Alert Service provide an engaging experience to the user.

Results
The site launched in September 2005 and feedback from Benetton has been very positive. The new Press website, available in two languages (English and Italian), is easy to navigate and enables Benetton to offer a quick and efficient response to the needs of the media.
