Environmental policy

We recognise that Reed Elsevier and its businesses have an impact on the environment, principally through the use of energy and paper, the use of print and production technologies and the recycling of waste. We are committed to ensuring that this impact is reduced where practicable by:

• Ensuring that the resources and materials used by our businesses are sustainable, are capable of being recycled and are used effectively with the minimum waste

• Ensuring that technologies which we and/or our suppliers adopt, utilise where possible materials and processes which do not have an adverse impact on the environment and, where such impact is unavoidable, it is minimised

• Requiring our suppliers and contractors to meet the same objectives.

The Global CEOs responsible for each of our four business divisions are accountable for ensuring compliance with the policy and with any environmental regulations applicable to any of our businesses.

The Chief Executive Officer of Reed Elsevier Group plc will report to the board each year on the environmental performance of our businesses compared with targets and subject to external validation as appropriate.

This policy will be reviewed annually.
